Why does it take so long to have you replace my windshield?

So, I had a customer ask me “Why does it take so long to have you replace my windshield? The last place took about an hour”.

I replied “That was fast, I can’t do it properly in an hour.  I need to prep your car, remove the windshield, clean and prepare the windshield and the area that it needs to attach to the car.  I have to ensure that your windshield fits and that the surface is ready.  I need to place it in the car and make sure that it does not move for an hour then, let it continue to cure for another hour.  I have to replace everything back on your car and that take time too.  So, to do it right I will need you car for about four hours.”

“Maybe the last people cut some corners and did not prepare the car or windshield properly… By the way how long did your windshield last?”

Customer: “well, it cracked, without a rock hitting it, in about three months”

I said “Well, we do it right with the best glass.  So, it take a bit longer to do the job right.  Your safety is important.  Please understand that we take a bit longer but with a job well done.”
